  • A review in the wild

Well, not really in the wild. Posted by a friend of mine to his blog “Malcolm’s Big Read.”

Malcolm gave an excellent review and a solid rating. He was gracious and sent me an email shortly after the book went up. It was an awesome, frank, spot-on commentary about it. I am super-excited about his review.

It’s always exciting when someone reads your work for the first time and they understand it. When you are writing and you give your work to others to review, you can give it ten people and receive fifteen different views on the piece. At this point I know when I will accept a critique and when I should let it go, but it can leave an author on the edge and uncertain about whether or not the various arcs and themes come out. You go through the whole process and wonder is it fast-paced enough, is it clear enough, is it good enough. It’s not perfect. I know that. But it is nice to know someone who had no prior information about the story was able to pick up precisely what I was trying to put across.

My next book is already coming together easier than this first one did. Well, this is the first published work. I have another novel I started many years ago. I have a lot of editing to do before I can release it. But it will be released in the next couple of years.

Many thanks to Malcolm for the review. It can be found on his blog here.

  • Post GlitchCon Report

GlitchCon was a lot of fun. I was on several panels. Jeopardy, Collaboration, Retro Rewind Radio, Mad Libs, and I helped Dyann Love Barr run the Story in a Bag contest. I got to sit in the dealers room and meet a lot of the attendees, chatting with them as they pass by. People are full of stories and they rarely, if ever, truly see it. I’ve always loved setting up at fairs or other events.

It was the same here as an author. Talking to people about the imaginary adventures and characters I come up with, but also hearing the real life struggles one person has with cancer or the person who has the strength to overcome an attack the way Karen Nelson is overcoming her attack. I learned of her plight through a fellow guest author. She is the cousin of a fellow author’s publisher. The poor woman was assaulted and seriously injured. It’s awesome to see how fandom has pulled together to help her. I know they will make the requested amount they need for her bills.

I had a great time working with Dyann Love Barr on the Story in a Bag contest. The winners will be published in anthology by Prose Press. Such an awesome opportunity. GlitchCon is a very strong Anime con with gaming. They are developing the writers track. While there weren’t a lot of readers and writers t the con, the energy is amazingly high and the community is warm, open, and welcoming. I truly enjoyed myself at the con.

  • Selected my Theme

I’ve selected the theme I want to use and it is truly Elegant. Divi, my chosen theme, is put out by Elegant Themes. The company named themselves well.

The theme supports true parallax images or background video and makes building a website as easy as working with sections. Their support documentation is quite good and comes in documents and videos so you can see what it is they do.

The lifetime support access fee is $249 which gives you access to all of their themes and plug-ins. For everything you get, this is truly not much. I am very happy and excited to stumble across this and Elegant Themes.

  • Hello world!

Getting the site together is a slow moving process, but it is moving forward.
